Dropshipping on Facebook marketplace is a crazy profitable opportunity. Even the newest person to dropshipping can start today and in a few weeks to a month scale a store to thousands of dollars in profit. I see it happen all the time.

BUT, there are certainly some issues with the platform itself….and in today’s video we’ll tackle those issues so you can be aware of them….and understand what you can do about them.

The first major problem you face as a Seller on marketplace is if a buyer says an item didn’t arrive, then it didn’t. Period.

It doesn’t matter if you have the tracking number and proof from the carrier it was delivered. Facebook will always side with the buyer.

And this has been true for Amazon sellers for a while now too. unless you get signature confirmation, they don’t see it as proof.

Just the same, if a buyer files a charge back it’s tough luck for you as a seller most of the time.

On personal Facebook marketplace half the time they don’t even notify you about a claim or a charge back and even if you notice them there’s no way to appeal built in yet.

There is a way to appeal them on shops, but my success rate has been only about 20%

Furthermore, the same thing that makes it easy for beginners to start, is the same thing that makes it hard for you to scale. And that’s that the barrier to entry is so low.

Because all you need is a Facebook account in one of the countries with the shipping option to start, that means you’re potentially competing with a lot of people….And new sellers are starting every day.

There are also so many bugs since it’s new. I can remember when I couldn’t list from a computer which Made Listing 150 items a day really tough.

Currently on one of my accounts I can’t edit any current listings.

The seller dashboard lags out constantly, even on mobile. And that’s if you even have a seller dashboard.

Which ties me into my next point which is there’s different features rolled out to different sellers at different times. You also get different features on mobile than you do on desktop Which can throw you for a loop.

Another major issue is that the ability to connect to marketplace for new shops is currently disabled while they work on a better selling/buying experience.

That means newer sellers are forced to list on personal marketplace only And it’s very easy to get your best selling products sniped from a personal marketplace. It’s much easier to protect them if you have a shop.

And the last major issue is probably the biggest….the constant bans and suspensions simply b/c a Facebook bot didn’t like something.

This is just part of selling on marketplace and If you sell long enough it’ll certainly happen to you.

I’ve probably been suspended around 50 times. No joke. But I will say Facebook has gotten much better at reversing these obvious wrongful suspensions much faster and now I usually get an account back in just a few hours

I’ve heard horror stories about people losing access for weeks, which can be a major issue if you can’t mark orders tracked.

That means you’ll be out the money for the sales and the money for the orders you dropshipped if you already placed them.

All of these issues said, I’m actually really excited about the direction of facebook marketplace. What started out as a stupidly simple platform like craigslist where buyers and sellers meet up has morphed into something that looks like it has the potential to rival amazon.

And I don’t say that lightly. I’ve sold on Amazon for almost a decade now. Amazon has the customer service, brand trust, and logistics to beat everyone easily….I get that.

But Facebook is constantly improving their user experience both on shops and on marketplace (hence all the bugs)…..you can tell they’re putting a lot of man power into it….and I’ve been blown away going through just playing around in it to see what it looks like as a buyer.

Simple things like the live shopping feature on shops are ways that ebay, Walmart, and Amazon can’t compete with facebook.

Marketplace has a long way to go for sure, but what I’m seeing is encouraging. It’s already a force in the ecommerce and dropshipping space. And I believe it’ll over take pretty much everyone else besides amazon.
