Yakiniku Recipe in Japan

akiniku is a Japanese style of cooking in which thin slices of meat (usually beef, but also pork or chicken) are grilled over a flame or on a hot plate, and then dipped in a variety of sauces before being eaten. The meat is usually marinated in a combination of soy sauce, sugar, sake, and other seasonings prior to grilling.

Here's a recipe for making a classic yakiniku dish:

Ingredients:

1 lb of thinly sliced beef (rib eye or sirloin are popular choices)
1/4 cup of soy sauce
2 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of sake
2 cloves of minced garlic
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 teaspoon of grated ginger
1/4 cup of vegetable or canola oil for grilling
For the dipping sauce:

1/4 cup of soy sauce
2 tablespoons of sugar
2 tablespoons of sake
2 cloves of minced garlic
1 teaspoon of sesame oil
1 teaspoon of grated ginger
Instructions:

In a large bowl, mix together the marinade ingredients (soy sauce, sugar, sake, garlic, sesame oil, and grated ginger)
Add the beef slices to the bowl, make sure all the slices are coated with marinade.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the beef marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight.
Heat the grill or grill pan to high heat. Brush the grill or pan with the vegetable or canola oil.
Grill the beef slices for about 1-2 minutes per side or until cooked to your desired level of doneness.
In a separate small bowl, mix together the dipping sauce ingredients.
Serve the grilled beef slices with the dipping sauce on the side.
Enjoy your yakiniku with some rice or fresh vegetables on the side like lettuce, scallions, or shiso leaves to wrap the meat.
Note: you can also use thinly sliced pork or chicken as well as vegetables like mushrooms, onions, or bell peppers if you prefer.
