-----------------------------------------------------------------
TheDEWALT FlexVolt 60-Volt 17" Brushless Attachment Capable String Trimmer comes in a kit with the 9Ah battery (DCST972X1)or as a bare tool(DCST972b). This powerhead is capable of tackling tough overgrowth with a string trimmer or brush cutter and withstanding heavy-duty use with an edger. The universal attachment capability allows you to connect additional DEWALT add-ons already on the market. This is a 60V Power Head that only uses the FlexVolt battery. This battery is backward compatible to work with 20V DEWALT tools and will help some tools gain extra power over smaller Amp Hour batteries.
So why a DEWALT, Milwaukee, or Makita trimmer over an EGO, Greenworks, or Echo? This slight change in my recommendation is because we get questions daily on why my 1/2" high torque impact wrench won't remove a lug nut, or why my circular saw won't cut a 2x10. It is because you cannot use a 2Ah battery on a heavy-duty tool. If people would invest in the OPE of a tool brand and get the larger batteries, they would have a better experience. ALSO, when you have a battery fail that is not under warranty, they are incredibly expensive to replace. Some EGO batteries are north of $300 for a battery. To be fair, a DEWALT FlexVolt is not far behind them in price, but you can use the DEWALT battery on a hundred or so other tools. When you need to purchase a new battery, at least you have multiple other tools you can use it with and possibly even upgrade another tool to a new, more powerful one.
I am not trying to say that dedicated OPE platforms do not perform well. In some cases, I would recommend people buy battery OPE tools as a stand-alone. If you are a person who loves their lawn and wants a perfect cut and feel to using a certain OPE battery-operated tool, then I would most likely say Toro would be a great place to grab a battery lawnmower even though the cost of ownership including its limited use for batteries. But that mower will fit that need for the person.
Many people do not own a large number of tools or even have the need. But if you ever need a drill, impact driver, or saw and you already have a tool company battery, that purchase will be much less expensive.
