Power Curves For DEWALT PowerStack 5Ah Vs XR 5Ah Vs XR 6Ah

Before we dive too deep into claiming one battery is better than another, one has to look at the discharge power curves and know exactly how these batteries perform while discharging at a constant rate. The DEWALT PowerStack 5Ah battery is an amazing battery that can push a large number of amps, but it seems to discharge at a higher voltage than the DEWALT XR 5Ah battery. I have to believe that the DEWALT XR 5Ah battery is the most popular DEWALT battery in the 20-volt lineup. Not so surprisingly, under a constant draw, the DEWALT XR 6Ah battery will hold a higher voltage than the PowerStack and last a longer time.

In other testing, under load, the 5Ah PowerStack would hold a higher voltage than the 6Ah XR telling us the PowerStack has a higher Amp discharge rate for the cells on the inside.

This test gives us a good idea of how each pack will work in a tool at different rates of charge. This also sets a baseline for us to see where the 50% charge rate is on each of these batteries.

There is great info here, but much of it will be very useful as we dive deeper into more testing.
