Project BLUEBIRD, an acronym for "Behavioral Research into the Electrical and Ultrasonic Effects on Humans" was a CIA-funded program created in the 1950s. It was run by Dr. Ewen Cameron, a well-known psychiatrist who had studied at Harvard and McGill universities. He used cutting-edge technology to experiment on his patients, many of whom were mentally ill or suffering from psychiatric disorders. The goal of the project was to discover whether behavior could be modified through physical means such as electroshock therapy, drugs, and hypnosis.
