The Stanford Prison Experiment, conducted in 1971 by Professor Philip Zimbardo of Stanford University sought to understand the psychological effects on both prisoners and guards when placed in a simulated prison environment. This social experiment, originally intended to last two weeks, was terminated after just six days due to its increasingly unethical conditions.
