There are a multitude of challenges that the United States must confront now and in the coming years. But arguably the most important problem we must address this decade is the nefarious role that teachers’ unions play in America. As anyone with a brain is probably aware, teachers’ unions, and the public schools they control, have caused a tremendous amount of harm to our young people.

There is no mystery as to why this is. The primary focus of teachers’ unions is not ensuring that children are educated and equipped with the skills necessary for future careers. Instead, teacher unions focus primarily on advancing their members’ interests and empowering themselves.

Even if you are the worst teacher in the world, the teachers’ unions will have your back. You could even be charged with sexually assaulting children, as was the case with New York City’s Aryeh Eller, and teachers’ unions will ensure that you cannot be fired and continue to collect your monthly paycheck.

Teachers’ unions have been wreaking havoc on America’s education system for a long time. But it wasn’t until the pandemic where we all got to see the full depravity of our nation’s teachers’ unions. Without any data or scientific justification, these unions shut down schools across the country, knowing that students would suffer irreparable harm to their educational development as a result. Any concerned parent or public figure who challenged the teachers’ unions’ rationale was labeled a racist, despite the fact that poor and minority students were disproportionately affected by the school closures.

We are now beginning to receive the data detailing the impact of these school closures on American youth. As reported by the New York Times, the school shutdowns have resulted in the largest-ever decline in the math and reading scores of American students. Today, in the majority of states, less than one-third of students are proficient in math and reading. This is a travesty. Of course, children from low-income or economically disadvantaged households fared even worse.
