Rio de Janeiro is a large Brazilian city by the sea, famous for the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema, by the 38-meter-high statue of Christ the Redeemer, on top of Corcovado Mountain, and by Sugarloaf Mountain, a granite peak with cable cars to its summit. The city is also known for its large favelas.
The exciting Carnival, with floats, extravagant costumes and samba dancers, is considered the largest in the world.
