We review the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5 14" laptop to see if this may be a good computer for you! Ultimately it's a good quality, feature rich machine that will knock out pretty much any productivity work you need, and it won't break the bank either. Suffice to say, we recommend it!
Specs as tested:
-AMD 5500U CPU
-16GB DDR4 RAM (non upgradable)
-512GB NVMe (upgradable)
0:00 - *Intro*
0:47 - *Specs:* - Bang for your buck it's hard to beat. Considering the specs and the ability to upgrade the storage if you need, we could see a lot of people being able to benefit from the hardware of this machine.
01:12 - *LCD:* - A 14" Touch screen with meaningful pen support (and it includes the pen!). It's FHD so it sports a 1080p display, and it's crisp, coloful, and glossy. It's also bright enough for most practical purposes! The only oddity is that for an IPS display, the viewing angles weren't AS great as we've seen on other laptops, but that will by no means be a deal breaker. 4/5
02:10 - *Performance:* - Fast! Benchmarks are solid and will perform well on all productivity tasks. You could probably do some light gaming as well as video editing (so long as its 1080 and not RAW). Photographers will also find a place at home with more than enough power to belt out picture editing, and audio editiors can knock out podcasts no problem. 4/5
03:10 - *Look Inside!*
03:45 - *I/O:* Bangerang, Rufio! They give you any and all ports your heart could desire, maybe with the exception of Thunderbolt 4 but for a computer of this price and class you literally get everything and more that the competition deliver on. 5/5
05:36 - *Keyboard:* It's ok. Keys are tactile and responsive, however the layout and the size of the keys are a little strange. As a result you'll find yourself accidentally hitting the "?" key and the enter button randomely. Those who are typist perfectionists may find this keyboard a little annoying but its something most people will get used to! 3/5
06:50 - *Trackpad:* Big for the price bracket! It ghosts just ever so slightly and has a rather firm click but overall its a solid trackpad with generous proportions and we're pleased with it. 4/5
09:11 - *Speakers:* Terrible. They are tinny, quiet, and have no character whatsoever. They advertise Dolby Audio which is not just a slap in the face, but somehow makes them sound worse. Did we mention they're terrible? 1/5
10:07 - *Features:* A great webcam with a privacy shutter, Wifi 6, Bluetooth, a Finger Print reader, USB-C Charging, Rapid Charge, Pen Support, 360 degree screen to turn into a tablet, and a backlit keyboard. They packed this thing full of features and all for under $700! They get a 5/5 easily.
11:15 - *Mobility:*. Great materials. It's built solid and should take a beating. Battery life is around 8.5 - 9 hours practically speaking which is more than enough for students and travelers or journalists. It's had some christmas cookies however and clocks in at about 3.3 lbs of weight, but that will be no problem for most people.
13:00 - *Who is it for?:* This laptop is definitely for business people, travelers, photographers who like to offload and edit on site, non-profits, and students. It's NOT for heavy gamers or 4K video editors.
