Top Former FBI Official Charles McGonigal Arrested for Conspiring with Oleg Deripaska

On January 23, 2023, former top FBI official Charles McGonigal was arrested at JFK airport in Jamaica, NY. He is charged with doing business with banned Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska after he left the Federal service in 2018.Show more

Allegedly, McGonigal was ihired by Deripaska to investigate a second Russian oligarch. Deripaska paid McGonigal indirectly through a New Jersey Corporation to which McGonigal had access. The DOJ alleges this transaction is illegal because Deripaska has been named as a Specially Designated National in violation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Basically, the U.S. Government has decided Deripaska is too close to the Kremlin, and will not let him freely do business in the Unites States as a result.

It is interesting that a top former FBI official has been arrested, especially for illegally colluding with a Russian. This same official, McGonigal was one of the Comey guys involved in the nonsense-hoax Russian investigation of Donald Trump. He, himself, has now been charged for a very similar crime.
