Sidechain compression makes your music dance, giving an up-down “sensation that interlocks with the groove of your song, as shown in many electronic dance music hits.

It is a type of compression where the effect level on one instrument is controlled by the volume level of another instrument. A typical example would be making the bass's compression level controlled by the kick drum's output volume.
