The year is roughly 1,043 B.C. during the time of the judges in Israel. The Israelites have now rejected Samuel the prophet due to his old age, and they request a King to rule over them. Although an earthly king was not what was best for them, God gave them what they wished for. Why would God allow them to have that which wasn’t best for them?
