1. Find something slightly out of reach, or completely out of reach, and decide that you cannot be happy until you have it.
2. Worry about money.
3. Eat a lot of fast food.
4. Compare yourself to other people.
5. Ignore the good stuff.
There you have it. I know you can do it. Of course, misery is not what all of us are going for. If, in fact, you are looking to decrease your misery -- and maybe even boost your joy -- try a healthy dose of the opposite of everything that was mentioned. But be careful: You may just lose your misery altogether.
