God will Test and Judge the Rich
James goes back to the very strong warning of the rich. In 5:1-6 there is an eschatological tone to the scripture pointing to God’s future judgment. James tells us if you are rich, beware of how you mistreat people. Beware of what you perceive to be important according to world standards. Does it align with what God knows is important? The question is, if God provides for you, are you hoarding for yourself? If you are blessed, then, you should be blessing others with what God has given you. For example, are you paying workers fairly, are you treating everyone with respect? Are you abusing the power God has given you to lead others? Through your selfish ambitions, do not keep your riches to yourself, therefore, denying a person the means to live and eat. Are you self-indulgent, never wanting to loosen the grip on your worldly possessions? James is very clear, woe to those who possess this behavior because when God’s judgment comes, you will be judged accordingly.
