Episode 972: Pontifical Marionite Divine Liturgy
Traditionally there are six major liturgical families: the Latin, Alexandrian, Antiochian, Armenian, Chaldean and Constantinopolitan (sometimes called Byzantine). The Latin rite is mostly formed by the Roman rite which is divided into an ordinary and extraordinary form.
Maronite church, one of the largest Eastern rite churches. The church is in canonical communion with the Roman Catholic Church and is the only Eastern rite church that has no counterpart outside that union.
The Qurbono,1 as the Maronite Mass is properly called, is the primary official form of prayer of the church, and a fundamental source of Maronite identity. It bears many similarities to other Eastern and Western Catholic liturgies, but has its own particular elements that make it distinctive.
Officially known as the Antiochene Syriac Maronite Church, it is part of Syriac Christianity by liturgy and heritage. The early development of the Maronite Church can be divided into three periods, from the 4th to the 7th centuries.
