Worlds Apart | The wise man's burden? - Chris Isike
It’s been more than a century since Rudyard Kipling equated colonization to a civilizing endeavor in his poem ‘The White Man’s Burden,’ but the philosophy, though somewhat diluted, still persists. The West continues to see itself as the shining city on the hill, whose values and practices must be bestowed on those living at the foot of that hill. Can the so-called international community ever part ways with the idea that some nations know what’s best for the rest? To discuss this, Oksana is joined by Chris Isike, Director of the African Centre for the Study of the United States at the University of Pretoria.
