What to Watch For In Parliament // 2023

On January 30th, Members of Parliament (MPs) are set to return to Parliament after the winter break to resume debate and committee work.

Last fall saw inflation, taxation, and the Emergencies Act Inquiry take centre stage in most question periods. As our MPs return, we can expect these debates to continue along with discourse on other important issues.

Here are a few items we expect to be hearing about…

Bill C-11, the Internet censorship bill is being debated in the Senate

Bill C-21, a bill banning more firearms in Canada is being debated in the House of Commons

Expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying to include the mentally ill and even possibly to mature minors and infants is also being discussed

To give some insight into what’s been happening in these important areas, as well as some good news from Parliament late last year, are MPs Garnett Genuis and Arnold Viersen. Both of these men are exemplary elected officials working on various worthwhile fronts such as human trafficking and international human rights issues.
