WORST AND BEST LOOKING RETRO GAME SYSTEMS! NINTENDO | SEGA | MICROSOFT

There are some video game systems that are just iconic in their design, and others that feel uninspired. What are some of our favorite-looking retro video game consoles? Let's take a look at what are some of the best and worst looking retro video game systems (In my humble opinion).

Super Nintendo Jr
I love the look of the US Super Nintendo controller, and also love the look of the Super NES Junior. It eliminated the eject button, made it more svelte and compact, and overall made it a more reliable machine. But why didn't Nintendo have to pull RGB out of it?

Sega Master System
I love the looks of the Sega Master System, I don't know if it's because it played both Sega card and cartridge games or if it was the grid pattern on the box, but I absolutely have always thought this was a good-looking system. Compare that to...

Sega Master System II
To quote #AVGN, aka the Angry Video Game Nerd, what were they thinking? They took everything that was iconic about the design of the original Sega Master System and completely ruined it. Worst of all, they made it a less competent system because it can only output via RF without modification. They even remove the SEGA card functionality! NO!

Nintendo Super Famicom
This is the one that started me collecting imports, the Super Famicom! I don't hate the US Super NES design like others do, but I do prefer the Japanese system's design. It was sleek and sexy, and I do love the button colors. This is one of my all-time favorite systems in terms of design and library.

Atari 2600
I had an Atari 2600 back in the day, and I never liked the design. I've never been a fan of the woodgrain look, all the switches and stuff that's on it that really just leads to confusion, I just never have been a fan of the design of the Atari 2600.

The original Xbox
So this is a unique design, put a big X on top of your system, and make it a giant 35 lb box and call it the Xbox. I know it's not literally that heavy but that's what it feels like some days. This reminds me more of a desktop PC than a gaming console, and that makes sense for the era in which it was designed. The games are decent, I hate the controller, and the system design is rather uninspiring.

Nintendo Famicom
This is quintessential Nintendo design for me, and it screams late '70s and early '80s! I know some people don't like the hardwired controllers, but if you get away from that this is a beautiful looking system. I love the cartridge flap, the fact that the controllers are stored on the side of the machine, there's just so much here to love about the design. I hate the fact that this was RF only, but it doesn't take away from my overall love and appreciation for this beautiful system.
