Car Plunges Under 18 Wheeler, 1 Deceased, 1 Flown, CORRIGAN, January 20, 2023 - Shortly before 2 pm on January 20, 2023 a black 2007 Nissan Versa (all names being whithheld) was south-bound on US-59. As the car was about to pass Plant Road, an 18 wheeler allegedly pulled off of Plant Road and directly in front of the car. The car plunged into the underside of the trailer portion of the 18 wheeler. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department and Officers Corporal Fitzpatrick Foster, Johnathan Reynolds and Chief Darrell Gibson with Corrigan Police Department. Additionally, Troopers Sean Barnes and Sergeant Sam Lattner with the Texas Highway Patrol arrived to assist. The driver appears to have been killed on impact. The passenger was flown from the scene. The driver of the 18 wheeler was not injured. Traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was backed up for 3.5 miles. Justice of the Peace, Robert "Dooley" Johnson executed an inquest at the scene. The car was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan. The 18 wheeler was drivable. This accident remains under investigation by the Corrigan Police Department.
