Memphis Depay trains with Atletico Madrid for the first time after move from Barcelona

Atletico Madrid on Friday announced the signing of the 28-year-old Dutch forward Memphis Depay from Spanish rivals FC Barcelona.

Atletico will pay the Catalan outfit 3 million euros (USD $3.25 million), with a possible 1 million euros (USD $1.08 million) more in add-ons.

Depay, who in December helped the Netherlands reach the World Cup quarter-finals, has agreed to a contract that will keep him at Madrid for the next two-and-a-half years.

As part of the deal, Barcelona also secured an option to buy Atletico winger Yannick Carrasco in the future.

Depay joined Barcelona in 2021 from Lyon at the request of then coach Ronald Koeman. He was a regular starter under his fellow countryman, but dropped down the pecking order after Xavi replaced Koeman midway through last season.

His minutes dwindled even further after the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha last summer.
