I feel left wing politicians have taken the green agenda to use as an excuse to tax people

I feel like often left wing politicians have taken the green agenda to use as an excuse to tax people and claim it is to help the environment. In the same way they tax people with speed cameras in the claim it is to save lives. I suspect no lives have ever been saved by speed cameras or at least too few to claim that they are worth having to save lives.
