Ride Along: A massive automotive manufacturing plant. 🤯😎

On 7-11-2008, I took one of our Cushman electric carts, and my Panasonic camera, and made a video going end to end. We already knew the plant was going to close at that time, so I knew these videos would come in handy. 😢

The company was over 100 years old in 2008 and started in Muncie, Indiana. This plant was erected later, with many of the supports in the roof coming from WWII surplus parts. This plant had once had thousands working in it, and when I hired in, there were 1800. NAFTA was our bane, and in the late 1990's, 800 got laid off when the manual transmission line got sold to Tremec, in Mexico.

Once that happened, we were a huge, half empty plant with utility bills totaling over $1M/month...and profitability became difficult. Negotiations between the Company and the Union ultimately failed, hence...this plant closed it's doors in April of 2009. 😢
