Essential to Christ's church and ministry are the sacraments of Baptism and Communion. "Sacramentum" is the Latin word for "sacrament" which means "token" or "pledge." In a sense, a sacrament is a pledge of loyalty, as well as a token down payment being offered. A good analogy is a wedding ring.
