Economists are warning that the United States could go into default with its creditors, halting some federal benefits, including Social Security payments and Medicare coverage, for millions of Americans. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is warning Congress that if they don't act today, her office will have to resort to "extraordinary measures" to ensure the government's ability to pay its bills tomorrow.
