Male Prostitution, the Gigolo and the Hustler – A Psychology Course Section in Human Sexuality

In this lecture we will review the research on Male Sex Workers, the Gigolo and the Hustler. We will also explore the history of male prostitutes in various cultures and present day male prostitution.

According to Hyde and Delamater (2017), A Gigolo (in French, one who dances), is a man who provides companionship and sexual gratification on a continuing basis to a woman in exchange for money.

Types of Gigolos: The Golden Boy – the pampered playboy kept by a very wealthy woman; The Lap Dog – who enters into a series of marriages of convenience; and The Toy Boy (boy-toy or stud) – works as a companion on a limited-term basis (Nelson & Robinson, 1994).
