Fighting back against militarization and ecological destruction of Sinjajevina, with Milan Seculovic

On this special release of “On the Barricades,” hosts Boyan and Maria hear from Milan Seculovic, a Montenegrin journalist and the elected President of Save Sinjajevina. Save Sinjajevina is an international solidarity campaign to protect Sinjajevina, a pastoral community and site of ecological and cultural importance in Montenegro, from NATO military occupation and environmental destruction. Montenegro has been part of NATO since 2017 and in prolonged EU ascension talks. While the President uses anti-militarization and green rhetoric to appease protesters, at the same time the new Minister of Defence has announced preparations for new military exercises in Sinjajevina, expected next May 2023 with more than 500 soldiers coming from abroad, presumably in order to train for the war in Ukraine. Milan shares some valuable background and lessons from the struggle.
