What is a cast iron fireback? Watch me restore and use!

The cabin build is coming along at a nice pace. The fireplace is a wonderful addition. We began looking for fireplace accessories and discovered this wonderful nautical-themed fireback! Firebacks are heavy iron or steel plates sized in proportion to fireplaces and are placed against the wall at the back of the fireplace. They are usually embossed with vibrant imaging that includes Victorian floral motifs, Roman gladiators, coats-of-arms or even historical scenes. Firebacks offer protection to the bricks against the extreme heat of the fire as well as enhance the aesthetics of the fireplace.
