Speaking Candidly on big issues doesn't make you look inteligent, it makes you look like a fool for oppenly admiting something derogatory to your country and not moving an inch to change the status quo. It makes you look like a loser and not a winner which basically reinforces the ideea that you want to change. Or speaking about things that you dont want to change makes you look like a politician, weak and better not talking.
