Did a Comet Hit The Earth 12,800 Years Ago?
The answer to that question is "yes."
...
Multiple comet fragments ripped through the atmosphere at such incredible speeds--over 30 miles per second that they pulled in the sub-zero vacuum of outer space in their wake. The animals caught in the path of the Arctic blast were literally flash frozen in place some while casually chewing their food, which is still to be found in their mouths today by the paleontologists that dig them up in places like Alaska and Siberia.

Words cannot adequately describe the total devastation wrought by the comet impacts 12,800 years ago in what scientists are now calling the "Younger Dryas Cosmic Impact Hypothesis."
...
The Younger Dryas refers to a prolonged period of abrupt cooling and a return to Ice Age conditions found in the ice core data between 10,800 and 9,600 BC. The abrupt cooling was likely caused by a combination of factors including an Impact Winter much like a Nuclear Winter that would occur in the aftermath of nuclear war.
...
An Impact Winter occurs in the aftermath of an asteroid or comet impact with the same calamitous results. The billowing debris discharged into the atmosphere as the comet collides with the surface of the Earth, combined with the smoke of extensive biomass burning, blocked out the radiation from the Sun, and blanketed our planet in a dark veil for many years.
