Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the value of Jesus as the steadfast and trustworthy friend of the believer.

In an age of social media, cancel culture, shifting alliances, and mercurial identities, a "friend" is a word that's lost its meaning. What makes someone a "friend" can be shockingly trivial and what marks the end of a friendship is far too little.

The Old Testament book of Samuel, detailing the kingship of Saul and the early days of David presents for the believer a picture of true, real friendship. It persists over the course of many years, it weathers tests and storms, and at its heart are individuals who behave selflessly toward one-another.

The New Testament shows the believer what that sort of friendship can still look like in the form of Jesus. The Son of God exemplifies the perfect friend who we can trust and confide in, and who we can count on for comfort and assurance.

In today's mercurial world, where words mean less and less, and lies mean more and more, if you're feeling alone and betrayed, or abandoned; turn to Jesus. Not only does he know what all those things feel like, but he's willing to stand by your side and he'll never give you up or give up on you.
