A Yeti Air plane en route from Nepal’s capital of Kathmandu to the city of Pokhara to the northwest has crashed into the mountainous country. 72 people on board of the plane – 68 passengers and 4 crew – are feared dead. The plane was a 15 year old ATR-72 with registration 9N-ANC.

A spokesperson for the company informed that rescue workers were headed to the scene to put out the burning plane and to hopefully find survivors. The Nepali government also responded with the mobilization of rescue and security personnel.

There have been 30 plane crashes with fatalities in Nepal in the last three decades. Far worse than any other country in the world. Domestic and foreign operated planes crashed over the years, killing hundreds of people.

The last deadly crash in Nepal was in May 2022, when a Tara Air plane crashed, killing 22 people on board.
