High ranking Catholic Church official abuses at Glandore Boys Home, and the hull of the Fitzjames

In this video I discuss the link between a recently deceased Catholic Church official and allegations of heinous abuses at the Glandore Boys Home nearby to my childhood home in Edwardstown.

One victim of abuses there between 1948 and 1965 – John Simmons – has stated in an ABC article that ‘half a dozen people’ abused children in that home. He called the Glandore Boys Home ‘an absolute den of paedophiles.’ According to that article, 27 men made allegations to the 2004 to 2008 Mullighan Inquiry into the treatment of children in state care.

I also speculate about the mound in what is now the Glandore Community centre grounds, and whether it contains the hull of the Fitzjames – a boat that housed 100 boys in state ‘care’ between 1880 and 1891.

According to a 2017 Migration Museum article, the resting place of the Fitzjames remains ‘something of a mystery.’
