2 items of interest i'm hoping will identifiable
2000years ago old there was an ever since mysterious, complete disappearance of a Roman force, The 9th Legion comprising maybe 10-25,000 souls that freaked Rome out so much , that Hadrian fretted daily about it for the rest of his life often heard at night to cry out "where did my Legion go!". He even built a wall!
But NONE were ever found again despite frantic searches that continued long after Hadrian's death & up to this very day. Nothing. No remains, no materiel nothing. & no victor was ever declared. Fair to say the legion had been weakened but it's still unexplained.
One of history's mysteries ,they've even made feature films on it , like "The Eagle" (2011) adapted from the historical novel "Eagle of the 9th" (1954) .
So i hope you'll understand why I think this little figure merits a check.
The 9th's emblem was a half spread eagle & very few if any statuette's like this have ever been found like this in this country - that i can find online i mean. So the museum should have a gander cos its been in my drawer for the last 4 years, get me....lol cheers!
Found about 4 feet down in Suffolk when i dug a pond 4 years ago.
Nearby there's also a walled pond at the TOP of a hill that i believe had importance to the Romans & from dredging evidence from 25 years ago i believe may harbour hoard after hoard of precious items offered up by travellers of the time from cambridge - colchester ....but that's another matter. ...
