The Tisovec - Zbojská - Pohronská Polhora cog railway was built in 1896, specifically to meet the needs of the increasing metallurgical sector.

From the inception, the railway was used for both passenger and freight transport. Coal, raw and processed iron, as well as building and firewood, were the most commonly transported commodities.

Because its original cogwheel machinery was fortunate enough to survive the time of iron production collapse in the second half of the twentieth century, the railway may be designated as a cultural monument in 2008.

This railway is the only spot in Europe where you may have a long-forgotten ride experience on a standard gauge railway with a cog-steam train. A cog steam locomotive brought from Romania will transport you.
