There are many residual effects following the ending of a relationship with an individual along the narcissistic spectrum. Common feelings are anger, hurt, frustration, disappointment, and feeling upset about the perceived relationship failure. This video is going to explore these issues and others and I’m going to give strategies to help you grow from the pain and recover.

Getting out of a relationship with an individual along the narcissistic spectrum is not easy. If you’re watching this video, perhaps you’re out, or seriously considering getting out. These individuals developed maladaptive strategies to see the needs in others and they learned how to use this to keep themselves safe and bolstered while minimizing you. You should be proud of yourself. Most individual’s leave, then return, leave then return multiple times because of the perceived internal need to have this person there, even if it’s unhealthy. Know that you’re not alone in your recovery process.

Recognize it’s time to focus on your recovery and wellness. Yes, you need to focus on yourself. This may be a foreign concept for you, as you may have grown up internalizing a belief that you don’t have enough worth that warrants focusing on yourself. Work to purge this false belief. You do this by catching your self-deprecating comments (add part of animation), and challenging them with kind, compassionate and accurate identifiers and phrases.

It’s likely that your ex-partner knew and tapped into those fears and weaknesses that we all have. Yours were just accentuated by your partner for however long you were with him/her. Over time, this got internalized, possibly to the point of it being a second nature belief. This is why you have to catch and challenge these inaccurate and weakening indoctrinated statements and beliefs.
