Racing For The Tempest Cup in Atari Karts (Atari Jaguar)

If you picked up the Atari 50th Anniversary Collection and explore beyond the arcade and Atari 2600 games, you might find a weird little kart racer called Atari Karts for the Atari Jaguar. Here's the tracks from the Tempest Cup, with some text commentary.

I would like to do a ROM hack of this one that at least fixes the glaring issue this one has (aside from the bugs of getting stuck on the side of the track) - that it barely has anything to do with Atari! I'm not sure how that ever got through design & QA. The only things Atari about it are:
1) The name
2) The cup names
3) Bentley Bear

Remove/change those and it just would have been a nice looking but wholly generic go-kart racer from the mid-90s that could be called Cute Karts. I would like to fix that by changing the sprites and the racers to actual Atari characters (no, not E.T. or Pac-Man, since neither of those are really "Atari").

There are more than most people realize - Yar from Yars' Revenge, Tor & Tarra from SwordQuest, Oliver from Centipede, Commander Champion from Star Raiders/Liberator/Atari Force, the eyes from Haunted House, the ninja from Ninja Golf, etc.

If I can manage that, I'll also look at completely changing the courses to also reflect Atari themes like Adventure, space vector games, the Magical Forest from Centipede, and more.
