If you grew up in such an environment with this type of parent you likely internalized many issues and typically childhood occurrences. In this video we're going to discuss those issues and occurrences that increased your likelihood of developing depression and low self-esteem. At the end of the video, I will give you a suggestion to help you push back on the internalized parent. Remember, knowledge is power, so let’s get you in the know.

Narcissism is typically a maladaptive coping strategy of grandiosity designed to compensate for feelings of inadequacy. Parenting is hard, but when you’re combating inner feelings of inadequacy you tend to resort to maladaptive behaviors that erode the child’s sense of self, ability to explore their environment confidently, and develop healthy relationships due to having a distorted or unhealthy model in which to work off of. These create those undercurrents you feel of sadness, hopelessness, distrust in yourself, uncertainty about your ability, and so many other beliefs, behaviors, and patterns that came out of your childhood experience.

Daniel J. Fox, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist in Texas, international speaker, and a multi-award winning author. He has been specializing in the treatment and assessment of individuals with personality disorders for over 15 years in the state and federal prison system, universities, and in private practice.
