Motivation is bullshit

Every year, between ~40 and ~50% of Americans set at least one new year resolution.

Which is great, setting goals is a beautiful thing. But did you know that 23% of them quit within the first week? Another 64% quit before the first month is finished. By the end, only 9% achieved their goal.

For every 10 people that want to improve their lives, only 1 makes it happen. These are not good numbers; they’re terrible numbers!

Why do you think that is? What are the reasons why they failed?

35% lose motivation, 19% don’t have the time, 18% of shift goals and priorities while 28% have other reasons.

You know what 100% of them have in common? They’re quitters!

I don’t care the reasons they use to make themselves feel better, the point and the matter is that they give up. I’m sure they had all the best intentions in the world but, they lack what it takes to follow through.

These numbers confirm my favorite saying: motivation is bullshit! What you need is discipline.

Motivation is attached to your emotions, on the days you feel great, you’ll be pumped and motivated. But on the days, you feel like shit, your motivation will be out the window and you’ll make all the excuses in the world to avoid doing the work.

This is why so many people fail in achieving their goals, they rely on motivation instead of finding ways to build discipline. Only with a disciplined mind will you do other things that need to be done, when they need to be done, no matter how you feel about it.

So how does one build discipline?

Accountability.

Do you have someone in your life keeping you accountable? Someone that tells you what you need to hear not what you want to hear?
