Rangers fc Neil Banfield On The Cup Semi Final Against Aberdeen.

NEIL BANFIELD believes Rangers must approach this weekend’s game with the right mindset as Gers head to Hampden Park to face Aberdeen in the ViaPlay Cup semi-final.

The Gers made it four wins in their last five games and remained unbeaten since manager Michael Beale took charge after coming out victorious in their last league outing away to Dundee United on Sunday.

Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the semi-final, the assistant manager is expecting a tough contest when the sides meet for a fourth time this season but wants the team to approach the occasion with the right manner to come out on top.

He explained: "To get to the final we have got to get over Aberdeen. It is going to be a tough game, we have played them three times, they work hard at their game and they will pose us a lot of problems. It will be a hard game to navigate but a semi-final is always tough.

Whoever you play you have got to go in with the right attitude and mindset, as well as the character and the belief that you are going to win.
"It is a semi-final which gets you closer to another final and to winning another trophy, and that is what it is all about, it is about winning as many trophies as you can get.

"I think the squad are good and settled, and again they are getting used to the work that the manager is putting into them. We are getting some good training in with them, and we are getting some good feedback from the players and they are getting used to it, it seems to be going in a good way".

With several players making their return from injury layoffs in recent times, the assistant believes their returns will give everyone in the squad a lift and raise the standards even higher again.

He added: "I think when you get players coming back from injuries it is great for the squad, and it builds the standards, the training becomes better, a higher level, more intensity, and I think we have saw that with the introduction of the players coming back from injury".
