This is one of David Bowie's Best, but most misunderstood songs of all time...the term Golden Years is a Biblical One, and it refers to the glorious period of a 1,000 years of Peace granted to us, when we Raise Jesus Christ, Christ Consciousness, up into the Kingdom of Heaven Within ourselves...thus, in this song, Bowie is speaking to removing ourselves from the Distractions and Violence of the Out There world, in favor of Going Within...to Raise the Chrism Oil (or Christly Oil within us) up into the Optic Thalamus, Activating the Pineal Gland, so that we too may become The Light of the World, and THIS is what is meant by Golden Years...Show more

And this is why Bowie says throughout the Song that we must Run for the Shadows in these Golden Years, as we now possess the Light Jesus Christ, which is the Truth, as it removes the Darkness (the Lies) from this World, so that we may now achieve ENLIGHTENMENT...
