The God Who Sees | AS BOLD AS LIONS DEVOTIONAL | January 27, 2023

I am a woman with a broken heart. I’ve been pouring out my heart before the LORD. 1 Samuel 1:15

In the lineage of judges presiding over Israel, Samuel was God’s final judge before He gave Israel a king. Samuel was righteous and his placement into God’s narrative was no accident. His mother Hannah, was barren and unable to conceive. Her longing to have a child led her to a place where she wept openly in prayer before God. This act did not go unnoticed, as she came before the Lord’s tabernacle and was seen by Eli the priest. Eli, seeing her anguish, ultimately blesses her to “go in peace”; that God would grant her petition to conceive.

We can believe at times that our prayers honestly go no further than the ceiling. We can be broken over an unanswered prayer. Perhaps we’ve been praying for months or even years and yet there are still no tangible results. But in our prayers, we must realize that God indeed sees us and is close to us in our brokenness. God placed Eli in Hannah’s path in order for him to reassure and bless Hannah. In the next verses, we learn that Hannah gives birth to Samuel and the course of Israel’s history is forever changed. God did not forget Hannah; He saw her and He had a plan.

Question for today: What have I been praying for that is still unanswered?

Pray: Lord, help me to know today that you see me and that no prayer is ever forgotten by You.
