SAN FRANCISCO PEAKS at FLAGSTAFF ARIZONA - Stunning Sunset Overland Adventure with Jeep Cherokee XJ

Today on our epic overland expedition we head up out of Flagstaff and catch a few miles on Route 66, then head up into the San Francisco Peaks!

We decided to take our 99 Jeep Cherokee XJ for a Cross Country Overland Adventure. We loaded our Cherokee XJ with tent, folding camping cots, grill, blankets, sleeping bags, and extra gasoline! At a truck stop after filling up with gas, we drove on the scales to see how much we weighed; the ticket revealed we were at 5200 pounds; we were ready for anything!Show more

We spent 31 days driving in 18 states, and put on over 8500 miles! Come along for the ride; we think you will enjoy it!

Today’s adventure takes us up into the San Francisco Peaks; and amazingly beautiful place. The Native Americans who live in the area, the Navajo, Cherokee, Hopi and other, consider these mountains to be sacred. After our trip up into those mountains we can see why.

The Ponderosa Pines were stunning and the little back woods trail we went down, revealed that these mountains are volcanic in nature, as there were plenty of volcanic rocks strewn everywhere.

We ended the day by driving up to the Snow Bowl, a ski resort on the other side of the peaks; we got there just in time for the sunset. A perfect ending to a perfect day!
