🏈 SMU heads into the New Mexico Bowl finishing 4th in the AAC this season led by Tanner Mordecai throwing for 31 touchdowns and 3,306 yards this season. The touchdowns were second in the conference and yards were third. Their leading rusher this season was Tyler Lavine only rushing for 551 total yards. BYU quarterback Jaren Hall matched Mordecai in touchdown passes with 31 while only notching six interceptions. The Cougars ended the season winning three straight games including a road win at Boise State. After a 2-3 start to the season, the Mustangs turned things around going 5-2 to end the year.
