On Tuesday, the World Bank released a report drastically reducing its 2023 growth prediction, expecting a global GDP growth rate of just 1.7%, the slowest rate since the 2009 and 2020 recessions. In June of 2022, the bank had estimated a growth rate of 3.0% for the following year. Furthermore, they cautioned of the possibility of substantial slowdowns in the advanced economies. This report is especially concerning because it is the first time that the World Bank has predicted a global growth rate below 3.0% since the two most recent recessions.
