Tates were not defending Romania but crossing a line and abusing the trust they were given, the things that they say they can do, basically having fun and doing some petty crimes. They were inviting other criminals to take advantage of the generosity and they themselves raped, trafficked, exploited women and posing as christians. And Romania is not that great, for example marijuana users are prosecuted by similar shitty prosecutors that Tates are now accused of.
