The human spirit can be a fickle thing. We gravitate toward those things that provide us with joy, and we shun those things that provide us with sorrow. We enjoy chocolate dessert, but we reject a hard day's work. Some individuals may even be eager to attach a clinical label to their mood in the hopes of garnering the goodwill of others.

Jesus, however, provides a true picture of a kind of suffering that may be dwelling within the spirits of an increasing number of people. For those who feel as though they are burdened within their own nature of a weight they are too weak to bear, Jesus offers a symbol of the proper attitude of the suffering Christian.

When it seems like things are at their worst, and you're wondering how you'll ever possibly be able to face tomorrow, remember that Jesus also struggled with a harrowing future, and was able to emerge into the light of the next day with confidence, because he placed his trust in God and acted accordingly.
