Finishing The Foundation For The Hyperadobe Chicken Coop Tower

On today’s episode,, Douglas is going to be finishing the foundation on the hyperadobe chicken coop tower.

We are Douglas and Keri and we recently quit our jobs, sold everything, and in September of 2022 we took a leap of faith and moved onto our off grid homestead property in the high desert of Cochise County, Arizona. Follow along with us as we build our off grid homestead property from scratch with our two rebels, Willow & Zoey and our 16 y/o kitty, Boo.

We decided to build the foundation on the hyperadobe chicken coop tower out of rocks from our property, mostly because they are abundant and free! We also decided to use the foundation to bring the tower coop to level instead of using hyperadobe bags. We did this for three reasons…one is the slant of the hill may have made it difficult to get the bags straight and level and two is because the rocks are free and three because we have no hyperadobe bag laying experience and we wanted a solid and very level surface to work from.

We are using a lot of rebar in our build and honestly, it’s probably a bit too much, but don’t forget this is our test build :) We will also be backfilling the interior wall with more rock and concrete to keep things solid and keeping things nice and level as we go. Douglas also went ahead and put in the lag bolts for the door frame.
