You are building a brand whether you want to or not, just by being in business. People will get to know, like you, and what to work with you, so even if you are working for someone or at a company personal branding is for you.

Take a real estate agent for example. Instead of branding themselves as a Keller Williams Real Estate Agent, they could brand themselves personally. Maybe it's the Lake Life Agent or Urban Family Agent or even the Military Relocation Agent...then if they switch to another company, say Keller Williams to Remax, they are still the same agent, no rebranding necessary, and no brand recognition lost. Just a small change in affiliation.
