Mark to House GOP: Don’t Self-Sabotage

After fifteen votes, Kevin McCarthy was finally elected Speaker of the House of Representatives. But did this often absurd melodrama need to happen? Now that the hold-outs have (sort of) gotten in line, will the GOP be able to work together to promote a solid, conservative agenda? After the US Constitution was finally ratified—by very close votes—the men who voted against it didn’t try to destroy the constitution, or destroy the men who voted in favor. These were virtuous men who believed in liberty and the dream of the United States of America. Do we have virtuous people in congress today? Or will the GOP continue the infighting, sabotaging themselves and wasting the narrow majority they now hold?
