Lightening Force Normal 1CC No-Miss | GBG

Here is my no-miss clear of Lightening Force, the North American release of what was known as Thunder Force IV in the rest of the world. Not sure why the name was changed for this release, unless it had to do with licensing rights, since Sega published Thunder Force II as a launch game for the Sega Genesis in the US, then Techno Soft published Thunder Force III, and Sega picked up IV again. Either way, this game is tweaked a bit from the Japanese original, and eases up ever so slightly on the difficulty. The best example of that is in the Gargoyle Diver boss fight (Strite stage), where the orb (it's weak spot) is slower when it moves outside the Gargoyle Diver's body, and doesn't chase you quite as far. There are a handful less enemies, and some other slightly less aggressive bits as well.

This footage will be reused for the video podcast episode upload, but that's still forthcoming, because I'm still capturing footage for it. I was so pleased with getting a no-miss while capturing footage, I decided to upload this just on its own. At some point, I should try and route the game on the Maniac difficulty, and see if I can find a way to clear it. I'm not confident I could no-miss, but even with the extra enemies and more aggressive boss fights, I think I could still beat it at some point, with enough practice, of course. So while you're all waiting for the Thunder Force IV Shoot the Core-cast video version, please enjoy this clear in the meantime!

This was played on the Nintendo Switch via the excellent Sega Ages port from M2, using a modified MayFlash F500 Elite joystick that has been outfitted with a Seimitsu LS-56 lever, instead of the stock Sanwa lever. It also has a 2lb spring installed.
